I’m a huge advocate of good habits and steady routines. Naturally, I hate routine. Even just the word sounds mundane to me.

BUT, I find that without a routine set in place, I fail to get as much done on my to-do list than when I do. When I practice routine and implement steady habits into my day-to-day I am 100% more productive and 100% happier.

Here is a list of 8 habits to revolutionize your life that I have found practical and easy to implement:

1. Organize Yo-self!

One of the greatest decisions that I have made in my life was to get organized. I used to be an extremely messy, and cluttered person. Both in real life, and in my brain- ha! Using a goal oriented agenda, like this one from Ink & Volt has helped me separate my time in ways that allow me to make the most of each day, month, and year!

How can I do this? Buy a planner that fits your lifestyle! I am a super goal oriented person so I always use Ink & Volt. I can’t rave enough about this agenda and how it has changed how I schedule my days. You can get one here!

How will it add value to my life? Being organized is one of life’s biggest hacks. I have yet to meet an extremely successful person who is not organized. Getting organized will help you tackle your biggest goals while giving you more time to spend with family, friends, or doing recreational activities.

2. Get Up Early

You have probably heard this one a thousand times, but getting up early guarantees to improve your way of life. Yes, it might be hard at first getting used to rising early, but long term it will be rewarding in so many ways. It extends the hours of your day significantly, and will also allow you to go to bed earlier. You will find you have more hours to work, socialize, and just spend time with yourself.

How can I do this? I am going to start by waking up 5 minutes earlier each day until I hit my goal wake-up time. I will also start going to bed earlier, in order to still get a good night’s rest before I start my day.

How will it add value to my life? It will give me more time in the day, and also help me fall asleep earlier at night.

3. Incorporate Stretching Into Your Day

Stretching is incredibly important for the well being of our bodies. Stretching increases blood flow boosts oxygen levels, and increases the flow of nutrients to your muscles. Not only does it help with short-term functionality, but it will also help you as you age! One of my favorite parts of my day is when I use my foam roller at the end. It helps me roll out any knots I possibly gathered during the day and provides 5 minutes of relaxation for me.

How can I do this? I can implement stretching into my day by doing it first thing in the morning when I wake up. Even if it’s just for a quick few minutes, I will see a positive change when the tension in my lower back starts easing up.

How will it add value to my life? Short term it will help lessen the tension in my body, but long term it will help reduce pain and increase mobility.

4. Be On Time

This is one of the most important habits you should acquire early in life. It shows respect to anyone you might be meeting with, as well as placing a form of small discipline in your life. Being on time, if not a few minutes early, will also reduce any forms of stress that you might normally get when headed to a commitment.

How can I do this? I am going to start getting places 5 minutes early. That way I will always have time to prepare for whatever I am going to, whether its a meeting or a simple to get coffee with a friend. This will get me in the habit of being early, which then I can shrink it back to just being on time.

How will it add value to my life? I often find myself rushing to meetings, dates, events, etc. which causes stress. If I learn to be more prompt, it will eliminate a lot of unnecessary stress.

5. Remove Self-Doubt From Your Thinking

It’s so easy to doubt yourself. Whether it’s entering a new job or the fear of trying something new, we are always critiquing ourselves. Stop telling yourself, “no,” and start telling yourself “yes.” It’s just as easy as that! When you catch yourself questioning your abilities, immediately check your thinking, and start doing the opposite. Remind yourself that you can do it, and even if you fail, at least you tried.

How can I do this? One way to rid yourself of self-doubt is by practicing mindfulness, that way when I do start to doubt myself I will know that the feeling is just temporary. Every time I start to think “I can’t do this,” I will immediately focus on the reasons why “I can do this!”

How will it add value to my life? Removing self-doubt from my thinking will make me more self-confident in myself and my decisions. It will also stop me from letting fear stop me from trying new things or completing things that might seem daunting.

6. Be Conscious Of Your Waste

We live in an ever growing world, and with that, the trash grows. Be smart in how you treat the planet around you! Don’t take more than you need, preserve what you have leftover, and reuse items that can be reused.

How can I do this? I can become a more conscious person by using reusable products. I will stop buying plastic water bottles, and reuse my titanium water bottle. I will make sure to recycle at home instead of mixing all my trash together. I can also ride my bike places in the summer instead of driving my car across the city.

How will it add value to my life? Being more conscious of my waste will not only help the planet, but it will help me financially as well. It is cheaper to be responsible!

7. Be Your #1 Advocate

You have enough critics in this world, be your own cheerleader! Yet, it is so difficult to stand up for ourselves. I constantly used to apologize when someone would question my beliefs or my actions, and it was extremely unhealthy. When you do something because you feel passionate about it, stand up for it. When you say something because you believe in it, stand up for it.

How can I do this? I am my biggest advocate because I know what I am best at, as well as what I am worst at. I need to start sticking up for myself more, by not apologizing when someone questions my beliefs, ideas, or actions.

How will it add value to my life? It will make me a more self-confident person while increasing my self-awareness as well.

8. Send Thank You’s

This might sound silly and old-fashioned, but it is something that should be part of our day to day lives. Although some might think thank you notes are reserved for special occasions, or for when someone gives you a gift, there is another purpose for them – letting people know how much you care about them! Thank you notes are a nice way to show your friends how much you care about them. Whether it’s a quick one line saying, “I appreciate you,” or a 2-page letter thanking them for being in your life, they will appreciate it! It is also a good exercise to constantly be working on your writing!

How can I do this? Determine one person each week that has positively affected my life, and then send them a thank you note letting them know how much I appreciate them.

How will it add value to my life? This will teach me to be more grateful for the people I have around me and let them know how much I care.

I hope you enjoyed this list and are thinking about maybe implementing some of these habits in your own life! I hope these “8 habits to revolutionize your life” will help you feel less scattered and lost in the day-to-day.

Let me know if you implement any of these 8 habits and how it helps you!
